Ofsted Registered Childminder in Calverley, Leeds 28

What Is a Childminder?

Childminders are people regulated by Ofsted - just the same as Nurseries and Pre-schools. We follow the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) and track children's learning and development aged 0-4 years.

Why choose a Childminder?

Childminders offer a variety of benefits for babies through to older school children.

We offer real-life experiences such as visiting the library, gardening, cooking, trips to the shops, meeting other children and their childminders; flexible opening hours; a mix of age groups; trips to soft play, farms, parks and playgrounds; a consistent key person; care for siblings alongside each other; smaller groups for more individual attention; a home environment offers flexibility of activities aswell as the comfort of being in a home rather than a nursery; more frequent outings due to smaller groups of children to coordinate; opportunities to do Forest Childcare daytrips - many Childminders like myself can make the commitment to weekly outdoor outings more easily than a nursery can; quiet spaces to relax - nurseries can be noisy and busy.

I offer the children a rich and varied experience which they all love and enjoy. We meet up with other local childminders and their minded children - the children make lovely friends which works great if they start nursery or school together.

About me!

I live with my husband and children aged 12 and 10 in Calverley along with our puppy and hamster.

I have been registered since April 2012 and offer care for children aged 3 months to 8 years. I collect/drop off at Calverley C of E primary school and Parkside Nursery. We have a spacious open plan playroom/dining room with patio doors that lead out to a secure enclosed garden with decked area and lawn filled with a variety of toys.

We vary our routine according to the time of the year and children's interests. We go out every day and attend local groups, parks, soft play centres, library, music sessions, woodland and places of interest. I offer lots of creative, messy play such as sticking gluing, painting, baking aswell as lots of child-led free play for children to explore their own ideas.

I'm a non smoker,  healthy and offer a reliable service. My home is clean, welcoming and the play areas are bright and colourful making it appealing, yet safe for children. Toys are kept clean and and fit for use. I regularly check them and dispose of any broken toys. I rotate the toys based on each child's age and stage of development. I also provide fun resources based on events and festivals (Christmas, Easter,  Chinese New Year, Pancake Day etc).

I have risk assessed my home and garden to ensure children can play safely. Children have access to the open plan playroom/dining room, garden and downstairs toilet facilities.  We have house rules and introduce them to the children when they start in the setting appropriate to their age. The rules consist of no jumping on furniture, no running indoors, we take off our outdoor shoes indoors etc.

Our puppy, Millie is a recent edition to our setting. She has attended puppy training and her behaviour is managed appropriately. She is a happy little dog that all the children love. She has her own space in the setting and is never left alone with any of the children. I am aware not all people like dogs however I would like to assure that since we got our puppy all the children, even those slighly unsure of dogs, all love her and parents have said what a perfect addition she is to the setting. To any parents of children that have been asked by their child to get a dog and parents are unable to, then this is the perfect scenario to 'fill that void'.
